Paul Brocklehurst is a Professor of Health Services Research at Bangor University and Director of the Trials Unit in North Wales. He is also a Deputy Chief Dental Officer for Wales and an Honorary Consultant in Dental Public Health. His research interests include role-substitution in dentistry, oral service provision for older people and work-force planning. He is a member of the REF2021 panel and until recently sat on the NIHR Health Services and Delivery Research funding panel (2016-2020) and the NIHR Health Technology Assessment prioritisation board (2018-2020). He remains an active panel member on the Doctoral Fellowship scheme for the NIHR Academy. Recent research studies include a pilot trial testing the use of Dental Therapists to undertake dental check-ups in the NHS and using role-substitution in care-homes to improve oral health. Outside of work, he lives in rural North Wales, runs a smallholding and is an active beekeeper.
